PRiSM and CS Maps, Featured at Philippine Space Week

DA-PhilRice highlighted its cutting-edge technologies, PRiSM and CS Map, at the recent #YamangKalawakan exhibit, an event organized in celebration of #PhilippineSpaceWeek, hosted by the Philippine Space Agency at Gateway Mall 2, Araneta City.

DA-PhilRice maintains a strategic partnership with the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) to advance the country’s use of space data. PRiSM, the first satellite-based rice monitoring system in Southeast Asia, along with CS Map, is helping strengthen provincial disaster response strategies and climate adaptation plans through high-resolution satellite imagery and smart mapping tools.

The #YamangKalawakan exhibit demonstrated how satellite-enabled analytics are transitioning from research applications into functional tools for agricultural governance and national food security. Presenting these technologies to the public allowed DA-PhilRice and PhilSA to emphasize that space-based resources provide the objective data necessary to protect the livelihoods of millions of Filipino farmers facing an increasingly unpredictable local climate.

PRiSM and CS Map’s participation in Philippine Space Week served as a strategic opportunity to integrate their field-validated data with the national space data value chain. This convergence ensures that high-resolution information from orbiting satellites is converted into local solutions, enabling government units to perform physical field verification and make evidence-based decisions to mitigate crop loss.

The presence of these projects at a national event underscores the importance of using space technology for practical agricultural monitoring and long-term resource planning. Combining remote sensing with actual field observations allows the Department of Agriculture to ensure the country’s rice supply remains secure and to implement climate-resilient farming practices across all regions.

About Philippine Space Week

Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. declared every 08 to 14 August as Philippine Space Week through Proclamation No. 302 (s. 2023). This annual observance aims to promote space awareness, highlight the contribution of Filipinos worldwide in the field of space science, and espouse the value, benefits, and impacts of space science and technology applications (SSTA) on the lives of Filipinos. The celebration also serves as an occasion to recognize the contributions of Filipinos here and abroad in advancing scientific knowhow, technological innovation, policy, and cooperation for the peaceful, responsible, and sustainable uses of outer space.

The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) leads the nationwide observance of Philippine Space Week and promotes active participation in the various activities during the week-long celebration.
